I showed someone a video of Missi, trot to canter transition, I told them that it was really nice (for her anyway!), but they commented saying 'no it's not she's in front of the leg' as if it were a bad thing. I asked what they meant by that and she said because 'she didn't maintain the outline through the transition!'

Wht you don't want is 'behind the leg', which means non-reactive/responsive to the aids.

Ditto. In front of the leg is good, she will get better at maintaining the outline the stronger she gets and the more she learns. Think said person doesn't understand the term...

Yer that's what I thought, I just though I had it wrong after what was said! The video in question is on the thread I posted last night, the left rein canter. I was pleased with the transition as for her it was pretty smooth. She used to run into canter so the fact that she struck off as soon as I asked was a big improvement.
